The LA Galaxy (0-4-12) will host Real Salt Lake (4-3-9) on Saturday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Dignity Health Sports Park.

This will be the last match before a two-week international break, marking the middle of the 2025 season in Major League Soccer (MLS).

The Galaxy lost the 103rd addition of the Cali Clasico Wednesday night against the San Jose Earthquakes (6-4-6), 1-0, at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The loss was the Galaxy’s fourth in their last five matches, not to mention their 16th game without a win.

In a post match press conference, LA Galaxy Head Coach Greg Vanney felt that the game came down to a lack of execution.

“The amount of open three versus two, four versus threes, the breaks that we had with space with our best players in the actions that we squandered over the course of the night, that is tonight,” Vanney said. “Yes we gave away a goal, but it’s the sheer number of man up rushes if you will, or transitions, or attacks that we have that we squandered over the course of the night that becomes the difference in the game.”

Since my last story about the Galaxy, Vanney agreed to a three year extension to remain Head Coach of the six-time MLS Cup Champions and hasn’t seemed to lose the locker room… yet.

If the Galaxy drop or draw another game at the midway point of the 2025 season, one has to think the season is on the verge of being lost.

The Galaxy have been unable to find leads or goals all season, and against the Earthquakes Designated Players (DPs) Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec found many runs in behind of the San Jose defense, only to give the G’s a 1.27 FOTMOB expected goals (xG) and no goals on any of their six shots on target.

That’s how it’s gone for a Galaxy side that have scored only 13 goals in league play this season (27th in the league) and have given up 36 goals (30th in the league).

As the Galaxy sit with a meager four points at the bottom of the table, they look forward to tomorrow’s match against RSL.

Luckily for the Galaxy, RSL are winless in their last six contests and are 12th in the Western Conference.

With how poor the Galaxy have been at finishing and defending, RSL DP Diego Luna could be a terror against the G’s tomorrow (Luna nabbed a brace last April against the Galaxy).

Galaxy midfielder and German National Team legend Marco Reus will not participate in Saturday’s match, after being pulled in the game against San Jose just before the 60th minute with a lower body injury.

Reus has been the Galaxy’s entire attack since returning from his knee injury in April, and an already anemic Galaxy attack will be even more barren without him.

Without Reus, Pec and Paintsil will have to step up and find the back of the net if the Galaxy want to save what has been a disgraceful 2025 campaign.
